Please note that our standard practice, no matter who hires us for a case, is to approach the evaluation thoroughly, striving for objectivity and the highest possible ethical standards. We are not paid for our opinion, but for our time. There is no guarantee when we agree to work on a case that we will arrive at a particular opinion. However, we are aware that the decision to retain an expert witness is a strategic one and that legal cases can be costly. Therefore, we pursue evaluations in a three-step approach.
The first step involves a review of the relevant medical records, police and court documents, and other collateral records in the case. These are typically provided by the retaining party. The second step involves the face-to-face evaluation(s) and any testing that is required. The third step involves preparation of the written report, if requested or required.
When hired by a defense attorney or a private party, if after any step in the evaluation, it appears that the results of the evaluation are unlikely to be helpful to the client, the results are shared with the retaining party verbally and the retaining party and forensic psychiatrist will mutually agree on how to proceed. This process may not apply in court-ordered contexts or in other types of evaluations requested, such as in some prosecution contexts.
We pride ourselves on customer service and we want to ensure that you feel confident that we are the right company to be involved in your case. It is our practice to provide an initial telephone consultation free of charge in every case to review the appropriateness of the evaluation for our scope of practice, to clarify the evaluation questions, and to answer any questions that you have.
The above list is not exhaustive, but instead reflects examples of the types of evaluations I perform. Additional services are available upon request.
I am able to give speeches, lectures or workshops and will provide consultation services in a broad range of areas related to clinical and forensic psychiatry, depending on the inquiry.
